Your "Sliding Doors" Moment

Updated: Dec 7, 2018

Are you at the train station right now deciding whether to hop on or not? The decisions you make (or don’t make) today may very well propel you into an alternate universe that is better than you could ever imagine.

Due to my ongoing recovery, I’ve had more than my usual fix of “down time” lately. On Saturday, I took a trip down memory lane when the movie Sliding Doors came on. Have you seen it? The short haircut Gwyneth Paltrow has in the movie was the main inspiration for my high school “look” which also earned me the nickname “Tootsie Pop” (big head/hair, stick body).

I digress…

If you haven’t seen it, the movie alternates between two parallel universes based on the path the main character (Gwyneth Paltrow) follows based on 1 simple thing-- catching the train home which causes 2 very different outcomes in her life.

It got me thinking about my own sliding door moments.

What would my parallel universe look like if I’d never gotten divorced? Moved to London? Discovered my passion for coaching? Opened my heart to love again? Quit my soul sucking corporate job? Devoted my career to empowering women?

My life would be unrecognizable!

While those scenarios, decisions and moments were some of to the hardest and scariest times, they’ve shaped me into who I am today and I am so GRATEFUL that fate aligned in the ways that it did to lead me to the path I'm on today.

Reflecting back on it, I would not want to spend a single day in my parallel universe. I’m proud of the choices I’ve made based on the circumstances I faced and while it certainty hasn’t been easy, I’ve gained so much more than I could have ever dreamed.

What are your sliding door moments? Are you at the train station right now deciding whether to hop on or not?

The decisions you make (or don’t make) today may very well propel you into an alternate universe that is better than you could ever imagine.

Will you start something new? Will you commit to pursuing your passion more? Will you end that toxic friendship once and for all? Will you go for that career that feeds your purpose? Will you finally allow yourself to be YOU? Will you start to listen to your soul more?

One decision could change everything.

I read the post about the sliding doors moments and it made me think about the big choices that change our lives in small seconds. I remember when I used Edit my law project online during a late night study session to fix my work and it helped me feel calmer about deadlines. That taught me even small help can change how you finish things and makes you stop and think about your next choice.
